Things I love:
- yummy yarn like blue sky alpaca and silk
- addi turbos
- continental cast on (just taught myself this today!)
- yarn stores that are only a 10 minute bus ride away
Things I hate:
- bamboo circular needles
- knitting anything on bamboo needles, be they straight or circular
- realizing that you've managed to twist the cast on edge before joining and having to frog current project.
ARGH. My fingers are cranky from the long tail cast on experiment. It was successful, albiet tight, but easiest 120 stitches I've ever casted on.
Final projects are due in a week. Gah.
So what's the difference between a continental cast on and a long-tail cast on? I have only ever done the long-tail, but the girls in my library group all do something different that I've never seen online before
apparently they are the same thing! i just looked back at knittinghelp.com and it says the following:
Double Cast-Onaka Long-Tail Cast-Onaka Continental Cast-On
I usually just do a knitted cast on. I defintely think I need to do the double needle when I do this new cast on, as it was really tight and made my hands hurt to get that first row going after the join.
AHhhhhhh! Okay, cool, then I do know how to do that
I haven't tried a knitted cast on,but I have seen it explained somewhere at least
That one does make sense, and maybe I'll have to start playing with a few different cast ons to see which I really like better instead of sticking with the one I know. Same for bind-offs, I'm not very well versed yet in variations
I'm trying to learn a new technique with every project I start.
I just found out that I was yo'ing wrong knitting continental style, so things like this are little factoids that I'm trying to pick up along the way.
I find myself liking bamboo needles less and less now. I think i'm going to start replacing all my sock dpns with either knitpicks' dpns or finally breakdown and learn to knit socks on circs (that way I can splurge on the knitpicks options!).I try and learn something new with each project too. Keeps it exciting.
I'm currently knitting a sock on 2 circs (cat bordhi method) and I'm liking it so far. Being able to use 2 addi turbos is fantastic
I have been interested in the knitpicks options – I may have to put this on my xmas list!
